The Ace of Hearts is based on the November 1969 calendar photo of Playboy Playmate DeDe Lind, which was stowed away in the Apollo 12 spacecraft during its November 1969 voyage to the moon.

Apollo 12's ground crew labelled the image 'Map of a Heavenly Body' and secretly stashed the photo in a locker aboard the command module Yankee Clipper, where it was later discovered.

These paintings were originally shown at Engler & Piper, Berlin. The Apollo 12 Girls were hung on opposite walls of the larger entrance room, interspersed with small targets. An image of a gun was displayed on the far-side gallery wall. The back room contained a series of gaudy mixed media canvases based on prostitute's calling cards.

The title of the show was inspired by a GDR hotel-vitrine, inscribed with the words 'Hotel Romantica'.
